Free Medical Screening for the people Of Tomefa in the Ga South Area.

The Rotary club of Accra Legon East last Saturday 29 th September, 2018, provided free medical screening for the people of Tomefa in the Ga South area. This is the 3 rd year in a row that the club is providing free
health screening to the village which is a very deprived and hard-to-reach village with very low socio- economic status.

Health screening is organized by the clubs annually and is aimed at ringing relief to deprived areas. In all over 300 villagers were screened for; BMI – as a form of Nutritional assessment; hypertension;

Hepatitis B viral infection; HIV; Malaria; Diabetes. They also provided Ear, Nose and Throat as well as eye examinations. Family planning services and routine vaccinations of children including Polio vaccination, which is Rotary Internationals biggest project at the moment (earmarked for eradication), were also provided. The villagers also received medical counselling and medications (pain relief; anti-malaria drugs and some antibiotics). All the villagers except children under 2 years and pregnant women were dewormed as well.

The president of the club, Mrs. Estherlynne Osei-Bonsu indicated that, the club opted to come back to the village of Tomefa because it was really in need and Rotary is about meeting the needs of the under- privileged in society. She was happy with the massive turn out this year, similar to previous years. She added that the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East last year, registered over 200 children under 18 years of age and the elderly over 60 years onto the National Health Insurance Scheme. She was sad this could not be repeated this year as a result of non-availability of materials for the registration due to shortage at the district NHIS office. She was thankful to supporting partners including Dan Adams Pharmaceuticals; Ghana AIDS Commission; Ghana Malaria Control Program as well as individuals from the club to make this project a success.
