Rotary Club of Accra Legon East hosted the Kenkeyfest event on Saturday the 18th of February, 2017 as a fundraising for the completion of the lavatory project ongoing at Adjiringano Basic School. The event attracted people from rotary clubs and the general public. The program was quite well attended with about 200 people turning up.

Guests were entertained with good music in a vibrant ambience. The main event of the day was treatment to sumptuous kenkey, well garnished with hot homemade ground pepper sauce, freshly ripe avocado and special Spanish omelet to go with it.

Guests who, unfortunately did not partake in the sizzling staple were not left out. A special order got them treated alternately to a delicious plate of waakye decorated with’ gari foto’ served with taalia (spaghetti- locally made) and hot and spicy chill sauce.

There were varieties of grills and fried dishes on the menu inter alia ‘domedo’, chicken sausage, goat and beef khebabs available on the side as optional side dishes for guests to choose from. In fact, they were spoilt for choice, as there were all varieties of drinks you can think of; alcoholic and non-alcoholic for the teetotals.

Good music from good quality sounds contributed to the vibrant atmosphere to which guest responded with stylish dance moves; both conventional and unknown to the spectacle of all present.

The highlight of the day was the Auction of a painting by Sekyiamah,  generously donated to the club by Dr. Zilla Limann (daughter of Ghana’s first President of the 3rd republic and wife of hip life inventor Reggie Rockstone). Rotarian YAS (Yaw Asamoah) of rotary club of Ring Road Central moderated the auction with great finesse and experience. To say the auction was a success is an understatement. It was magnifique ( French accent). Good money was made.

The event was climaxed by the raffle draw with the first prize being a weekend stay for 2 at the plush African Regent Hotel; second prize was Dinner for two at Aftawerk inside Reggie Rockstone’s office plus 10 other consolation prizes.

In his closing remarks, while presenting the auction item to the winner (Rtn Kofi Asmah), RP Harris thanked all present for the gesture of true fellowship demonstrated by Rotarians. He made special mention of the Rotary clubs of Ring Road Central; Accra Labone; Accra Ridge among others. RP Harris also acknowledged his fundraising director Charter President Sam Asare Konadu and fundraising chair, Rtn Joana Amoako for the excellent planning and execution of the event. African Regent Hotel, Aftawerk at Reggie Rockstone’s office and Akon Consult were applauded for their kind sponsorship. The event has been earmarked as a flagship annual fundraising event for the club.
